The train from Christchurch arrived about 15 minutes late, but I was still in plenty of time to catch the ferry.
So, an early start. Taxi at 6 am to the train station, for a 7 am train.
On Monday 10th September 2007 I plan to travel from Christchurch on the south island of New Zealand to Palmerston North on the north island….
Christchurch Airport is about a $40 NZ taxi ride from the town centre.
Quick tour of the town (in the dark). Larger than I expected…. but couldn’t see much of it… as it was too dark.
Well, that is the end of my ski trip to the South Island of New Zealand, time to head north.
First stop is Christchurch (to catch up with an old friend), which means a flight from Queenstown to Christchurch.
This is seriously cool - at Treble Cone I saw a lot of parrots… yes parrots. New Zealand has the worlds only mountain parrot, called a Kea (Nestor notabilis), and there are stacks of them around Treble Cone. The birds are confined to the mountain areas on New Zealand’s south island.
Like all ski areas around Queenstown, when compared to European, or US, ski areas, the Remarkables is small. Very small.
